Dramatic Rise In Stop-Smoking Requests

The number of people asking their doctor for help to quit smoking has risen dramatically, according to a new poll.
If England follows trends in Northern Ireland and Scotland, where the smoking ban is already in force, even more people will seek help in the coming months.
A survey of 1,000 GPs found that 95% of those in Northern Ireland, where the ban came into force in April, have seen a rise in the number of requests in the last year.
Wales, where the ban was also enforced in April, has seen an 83% increase, while Scotland's 2006 ban encouraged a 79% rise.
